The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Mr. Jeppe Kofod, on 27 August announced the decision of the Danish Government to close the Danish Trade Office in Barcelona as of 1 January 2022. The activities of the Trade Office will be moved to the Royal Danish Embassy in Madrid.
The purpose of this decision is to enhance synergies and reduce costs. Denmark will maintain its Honorary Consulate in Barcelona. It is part of a broader adjustment in Denmark’s international presence. This adjustment entails an upscaling of a number of existing diplomatic missions and trade offices, as well as the closure of others.
Until the closure date of the Trade Office, companies can still contact the Trade Office in Barcelona for commercial services and enquiries.
After the closure of the Trade Office, by 1 January 2022, enquiries for commercial services in all of Spain should be directed to the Royal Danish Embassy in Madrid.
This decision does not imply that Denmark is reducing staff of the Trade Council in Spain. On the contrary, the positions currently placed in Barcelona will be moved to Madrid. Furthermore, we have just welcomed a trade expert on digitalisation and more positions are expected to be filled within the coming months.
